Schenker

Logistics and transport services for exhibitions

Schenker Fairs UK is a well-established British-based show logistics company offering a wide range of clientorientated exhibition site services. The company specialises in all areas of logistics, including the supply of all modes of national and international transport, and its clients include event organisers, exhibitors and contractors.

An integral part of the Schenker Logistics group, with an enviable pedigree dating back to the establishment of a London office in the 1870s, the company was involved in some of the earliest exhibitions to take place, making a substantial contribution to the industry and in developing many of the services often taken for granted at show sites today.

Three UK locations

A team of more than 30 people, spread across three locations, form the backbone of Schenker's UK operation, with offices at Excel, NEC, Birmingham and Laindon, London. In-depth knowledge of shows, gained from specialising in geographical areas as well as in a wide range of market sectors, ensures the company is well-qualified to handle the challenges of today's exhibition industry.

Schenker handles complete show appointments on a worldwide basis, managing full show programmes, exhibit tours, hotel events, industry conferences, forums, seminars and product launches. All services are provided on both a national and international scale.

Schenker's own network is important, as it allows the company to handle shows "just about anywhere" worldwide. The network takes in Schenker's own offices at more than 1,000 locations, and as a member of the IELA (International Exhibition Logistics Association) there are specialised local exhibition agents covering other areas as well.

Networked strength

The strength of its own networks and key alliances also provides real buying power, the benefits of which can be passed onto Schenker clients. These include some of the world's biggest event organisers, such as Reed Exhibitions and DMG World Media, as well as individual clients such as Rolls Royce, BAE Systems and Sony.

Schenker in the UK is a member of BIFA (British Institute of freight Forwarders), and has associate membership of the AEO through the AEC (Association of Exhibition Contractors). Schenker Fairs UK has also been recognised by industry awards from both the AEO and IELA.

Core business

Schenker's core business takes in aerospace, technology shows (as in the semi-conductor industry), transport shows, international motor and boat shows, machinery shows, printing, textiles, food and machine tools events, the communications and IT sector, and travel and leisure shows (such as World Travel and Arabian Travel). In the world of sport, Schenker has also worked with clients at both Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

A key element of Schenker's business is its staff, made up of a blend of experience and specialisations, ranging from senior personnel with 35-plus years' experience to younger team members who bring their own energy, enthusiasm and fresh thinking to the company.

Staff are exposed to a wide range of industries before specialising, to ensure that Schenker can offer an unparalleled combination of in-depth resources, experience and ability, with the flexibility to tailor services precisely to a particular event and client.

Specialist services

Detailed services include packing, banding securing and shrink-wrapping of materials, while vacuum packing, foil sealing and crate building can also be arranged. Schenker's specialist lifting and handling teams have built up wide-ranging expertise, working within factories on the installation and removal of machinery and also handling a broad range of equipment and exhibits for events.

On the Customs side, the company arranges temporary imports, ATA carnets, guarantees and transit paperwork, as well as organising permits, licenses and proforma invoices, all provided with the back-up and support of its operations teams.
