Slack & Parr

Metering pumps for man-made fibre production

Located near Derby in the UK Midlands since 1917, Slack & Parr continues to market, design, manufacture and despatch high-precision gear metering pumps for the man-made fibre and other industries. Aerospace products are also manufactured at the Kegworth facility.

While many UK engineering companies can offer design or manufacture, Slack & Parr is quite unusual for a UK company of approximately 200 staff in that it can do both. Constant investment has been made in design staff and resources. In manufacturing, products are produced completely from steel sections to finished. Again, historic and continued investment in human resource and the latest CNC machinery ensures that Slack & Parr remains always competitive.

Worldwide network

Around 80% of products are exported. Slack & Parr is now an international company with a worldwide sales and service network. Since 1973, there has been a USA Sales office. In 1998, service facilities in Taiwan were added and in 2005 another Service centre in Qingpu near Shanghai, China was opened.

Bespoke solutions

Being an independent, privately-owned company has allowed Slack & Parr to become involved with almost all known man-made fibres from a wide variety of international manufacturers. Over many years, equipment from experimental and laboratory versions right through to full-scale production models has been developed and supplied. This widespread knowledge allows the design and manufacture of bespoke solutions to customer requirements. In addition, a more standard range of products compatible or superior to competitors' for PET, PA6 etc. is also offered.

Investment strategy

As the man made fibre industry continues to shift to Asia and with customer demands and expectations higher than ever, Slack & Parr will continue with an intensive investment strategy to allow superior commercial and technical solutions. This year a major investment of Euro 1 million will be made in CNC production machinery, while other smaller investment projects will also be implemented consecutively.

Slack & Parr recognises that only those UK engineering companies which are always at the forefront of technology, quality and service can continue to exist.
